Anticipatory Set: A child educated only at school is an uneducated child. ~George Santayana
Parents: It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child... Please help us educate your child by clicking on the blog link below (right above the graphic of the sun) and accessing the math and reading websites. Please encourage your son/daughter to build his/her skills using the activities on the links as well as other activities you come up with at home. Also - please read to your child daily (or make sure your child reads daily) if even for a few minutes!! We look forward to working with your child this summer to help build his/her skills!!
Technology Integration: The blog link is located above the sun graphic. A video of President Obama from youtube is embedded towards the bottom of the wiki. Several examples of technology integration are also on the blog page.
Modifications for Differentiated Instruction: This area is not necessary as this is a parent-information page.
Instructional Strategies: Indirect Instruction and Independent Study-- parents will access and use information without teacher direction. Teacher will serve as a resource only.
Assessment: Parents are asked to take a survey regarding the effectiveness of summer school on the Summer School blog page. There is also a survey question regarding the feelings of parents about receiving information via a blog.
Resources/Material: Parents will use their computer and on-line access to read information about education and summer school and to log onto various links to go to activities to enhance their child's education at home.
Personal Reflection: I made a statement on Day 1 of class that I was definitely the 'weakest link' in this class. I came into this class fairly uneducated about computer tools. I still feel pretty 'weak' , but I do feel somewhat educated about Web 2.0 resources. I had heard of a blog before, but didn't know what one was, and now I feel that not only do I know what one is, I feel I would be able to use one to enhance my communication with my students' parents (although I may have to have a little mini-class with the parents to 'teach' them about blogging). I had never heard of Google Docs or RSS feeds. I feel that Google Docs will be fairly easy to use and I can see the benefit in using them in my position. As the SPED coordinator for the district, I am in charge of coordinating any SPED related activities, such as our preschool screening. There are several people involved with the administration of the screening, and it would be nice to have their input when I am creating the agenda for the day. Google docs would allow me to have that. Also, I could get their input when I create the documents that go along with our Universal Screening activities, which we do three times a year. Usually I have to create the document myself, print it out, run it off and distribute the information to the other team members. Then, they edit and give it back to me. After I receive everyone's editions, I 'fix' the document. Google docs would alleviate a LOT of that hassle. RSS feeds is still a little fuzzy for me - I understand what it is, just not sure how I will use it in my classroom. The wiki to me has been the most fun!! I was able to download a video (with no help :-) on my wiki (which I could not do on my blog) and actually felt like I knew something!!! I am anxious to show my kids at home what wiki's are -- they should be impressed!! So, basically I feel that I am 'better educated for having been here'!!!
